The Akari Chargers looked to strengthen their playmaking with the addition of UAAP champion and former Best Setter awardee Mars Alba.
After the transition of captain-turned-assistant team manager Michelle Cobb, the Chargers are drawing on Alba’s championship pedigree and high-level experience as they work to regain rhythm and consistency midway through the PVL On Tour group stage.
Alba most recently suited up for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, helping steer the squad to a silver-medal finish in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference before parting ways with the team. She now joins a promising Akari roster–looking to follow up on last season’s success.
Her signing marks the second key addition to Akari’s setting lineup in recent weeks.
Last June, the Chargers also added setter Bea Bonafe. A former UP standout, Bonafe spent two seasons with the Creamline Cool Smashers before moving to Akari. Her arrival reunites her with head coach Tina Salak—her mentor from their De La Salle-Zobel days—and former high school teammate Justine Jazareno, helping ease her transition into the squad.
The Chargers are currently 1‑3 in the PVL On Tour and look to navigate a retooled roster and a new system under Salak.
