Akari is newest PVL team

Three years after backing Adamson University in the Philippine Volleyball League (PVL), Akari Lighting and Technology Corporation has officially joined the league as its tenth team.

Akari has etched its place in collegiate sports as it supported Adamson University’s title-clinching pep squad in 2016 as well as the school’s basketball and volleyball programs, before formalizing its entry into the country’s only professional volleyball league with its own team.

National team mentor to lead Akari’s charge

Akari has already made big splashes before it even enters the league when it tapped national team coach and Olympic gold medalist Jorge Edson Souza de Brito as its head coach last June.

Happy and blessed to be part of this team. Great challenges ahead, but joy and gigantic responsibilities. Thank you for your trust! Get to work!

– De Brito

De Brito is a former Brazil Men’s Volleyball Team member who won the gold in Barcelona Olympics in 1992. This will be the first time for De Brito to coach a PVL team.

Building a PVL-caliber squad

Mozzy Ravena has also been tapped as Akari’s team manager to help the Power Chargers build a formidable lineup come October.

The team has announced the signing of stars in Trisha Genesis, Michelle Cobb, and Jho Maraguinot, among others.

The Power Chargers will start its PVL journey in the import-laden Reinforced Conference this October.
