ThE Philippines served tremendous composure in the fourth set to beat Indonesia, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 33-31, and secure second place in the SEA V Cup at the 700th Anniversary Chiang Mai Stadium on Sunday.
After a winless Leg 1, Alas went 2-1 to clinch their best finish ever since the regional women’s volleyball tournament, originally known as ASEAN Grand Prix and rebranded as SEA V League until last year, started in 2019.
It was a sensational Leg 2 for the Philippines, which on Saturday ended a 15-match losing skid against Vietnam with a 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 win.
Akari’s Fifi Sharma was a major contributor in the extended fourth set, scoring all of her three points late in the match.
Justine Jazareno, the Chargers’ libero, also had a solid game with 15 digs.
“I told everybody to focus on ourselves, not focus on the opponents side. Because what we can control is only our side and they did it,” said Alas coach Taka Minowa in the post-match interview.
