The Adamson University Baby Falcons started its bid to rebound from last year’s runner-up finish with a straight-sets victory over Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Tamaraws, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 88 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym on Sunday.

Reigning Rookie of the Year Ellaine Gonzalvo led Adamson with 18 points composed of 14 attacks, three aces, and a block. Francheska Adem chipped in 12 markers, while Elaine Garces tallied 14 excellent sets in the 71-minute match.

The Lady Baby Falcons pulled away in the third set after trailing 12-14, taking advantage of six consecutive points off FEU-D miscues to seize momentum. They then limited the Lady Baby Tamaraws to just two more points before another six-point run, capped by an ace from Adem, sealed the win.

Head coach JP Yude lauded his squad’s debut performance but acknowledged areas for improvement.

“I’m proud sa mga bata. I’m happy sa first game nila. Kumbaga ‘yung iba, bago pa maglaro. So ‘yun lang, may mga kailangan lang din namin trabahuhin, ‘yung mga lapses namin for today. Pero unti-unti, kumbaga sa second game we need to adjust,” Yude said.

FEU-D was paced by Nigerian blocker Ifunanya Udeagbala, who scored 10 points.
