Tripple B clawed back from an early 8-0 hole and closed strong to defeat Miriam College, 49-41, in the Akari U16 Girls’ Basketball Invitational at the Playtime FilOil Centre on Tuesday.
Tyler Tempo led the charge after a slow start, helping Tripple B tie the game at 11-all by the end of the first quarter. They briefly took a 17-13 lead in the second, but Miriam responded, and the teams were deadlocked at 22 heading into halftime.
Miriam looked to regain control in the third behind Selena Canda and Miren Molina, building a 32-26 cushion. But Tripple B trimmed the gap late in the frame, capped by a Tempo-to-Ebao fastbreak that made it 32-31 entering the fourth.
Tripple B then flipped the script with a dominant final period. Isobel Ablang hit a go-ahead three with 3:29 remaining to start a decisive run, followed by key buckets from Kairi Ebao and Tempo, who later drilled a clutch triple to make it 47-37. Miriam made a late push, but Tempo sealed the win with a final basket in the closing seconds.
Tempo led the way for Tripple B with a standout performance of 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Ebao added a double-double of her own with 14 points and 13 boards.
For Miriam College, Canda topped the scoring with 14 points, while Membrere contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
Tripple B chalked up its first win after its opening day loss, while Miriam College slid down to 0-2.
