SPCP fends off Miriam College’s rally to secure first win

St. Paul College of Pasig (SPCP) held off a spirited comeback by Miriam College (MC), 46-37, to notch its first victory in the Akari U16 Girls’ Basketball Invitational at the Victoria Sports Tower earlier today.

Brooklyn Sanchez powered SPCP with a standout performance, finishing with 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

On the other end, Selena Canda paced MC with 15 points but also committed nine turnovers. Mren Molina added a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds in the losing effort.

After falling behind by double digits in the first half, MC clawed back into the game with a furious third-quarter run, capped by a Canda breakaway layup that trimmed the deficit to just five, 26-31.

Both squads traded baskets early in the fourth, keeping the crowd on edge. But Sanchez silenced MC’s rally, draining back-to-back triples late in the game to put the contest out of reach and seal the win for SPCP.
